It’s not quite the last blast of summer, but the rest of the August lineup of Michigan music festivals comes off as a treasure trove of diverse music — much of it created by artists from the Great Lakes State.
This weekend alone, music lovers can choose from nine different music-driven festivals, from Celtic music (Sparta Celtic Festival) to jazz (Phil Denny’s Armory Jazz Fete) to Christian music (Unity Christian Music Festival) to hip hop (Hip Hop 50th Anniversary Festival and One Peace Hip Hop Festival) to hard rock (Rock4Vets Music Festival).
And the weeks ahead — as kids prepare to head back to school — features some highly anticipated gatherings, including the electronic music-propelled Breakaway Music Festival in Grand Rapids, the rootsy Hoxeyville Music Festival in Wellston and the inaugural Fair Ground Festival in Hastings, among others.
