Singer-songwriter Ben Rector was ready to “Let the Good Times Roll” at Grand Rapids’ DeVos Performance Hall on Friday just so fans could say, “I Hear a Symphony.”
The award-winning Oklahoma native and Nashville-based musician joined the Grand Rapids Symphony and fellow singer-songwriter Cody Fry for the final date on Rector’s 2024 touring schedule.

The show was part of an intriguing week of live music across West Michigan which included soulful pop-rocker Andy Grammer lighting up Kalamazoo’s State Theatre with his multi-platinum-selling music on Friday, the same night that Ohio metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada rattled The Intersection in Grand Rapids (set list here) and the day after Indiana alternative blues-rock outfit Houndmouth pumped up the same venue (set list here).
Bell’s also hosted Lower Leisure Class and Wild Woodys on Saturday, the same evening that Halloween came early at Old Dog Tavern with Ghost Bunnies, Griff Paws and Monkbirds. To the north in Grand Rapids, Empress Eyes performed at The Stray, with Asamu Johnson & The Associate of the Blues at Horrocks Market and Hannah Rose Graves staging her annual Halloween shindig at Billy’s Lounge.
Mid-week romps included the Kitchen Dwellers and Sicard Hollow at a sold-out Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo and world music trio Whorled making its SpeakEZ Lounge debut in Grand Rapids as part of the Local Spins Wednesdays series.
