The Electric Forest festival — canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19 — plans to be back in 2021 for its traditional late June celebration, with two alternative weekends approved for August in case the pandemic forces a postponement.

According to the White Lake Beacon, Rothbury village officials earlier this week approved the tentative June 24-27 festival dates presented by Colorado-based promoter Madison House, along with two alternative weekends: Aug. 12-15 and Aug. 19-22.
The universally acclaimed festival which annually attracts electronic acts, jam bands and alternative music artists, along with more than 40,000 concertgoers, to West Michigan’s Double JJ Resort was forced to scrap the planned 10th anniversary event in 2020 due to COVID concerns.

Although a performer lineup for 2021 hasn’t been announced, the sold-out 2020 event initially had announced sets by String Cheese Incident (playing three nights), Bassnectar, Big Gigantic, Diplo, Keller Williams, Lotus, Disco Biscuits, 12th Planet, EOTO, Flume, Major Lazer, Lotus the Child, The Glitch Mob, Lindsey Stirling, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Big Boi, Big Wild, The Black Madonna and dozens more.
Those who purchased wristbands for 2020 were allowed to retain them for use in 2021; those seeking refunds had a limited time (until May 21, 2020) to request reimbursement.
The most recent December update on the Electric Forest festival website indicated organizers were “considering options” for 2021 dates. “Thank you for your patience and understanding while we navigate the opportunities,’ the statement continued, “and we will communicate again with confirmed information.”
While more than 40 music festivals have been scheduled in Michigan for 2021, organizers have cautioned that proceeding with these events will depend entirely on the state of progress in battling the coronavirus pandemic and availability of vaccines.
