THE READER RESPONSES:
Thomas Leonard Saxe – ABBA, for sure. Bread. Air Supply. Bee Gees, post-1970. There are numerous others, so I can’t wait to read people’s opinions.
Stephen Aldrich – Carrie Underwood. Setting the bar low…
Matthew Borr – Hootie.
Bill Van Ess – Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band
Anthony Plumstead – I always wanted to like Fleetwood Mac because everyone else but me likes them. I just cannot do it. Steve Nicks, bla, bla, bla.
Chad Michael Wedeven – The entire genre of EDM mystifies me. It’s like, each generation’s parents has said of the next, “that’s not music!” until, finally, it was true. Disco looks like Bob Dylan next to this electronic assault. Electric Forest looked like hell on earth. My lawn, get off it.
Lee Chase – Any and all “bro country.”
Kelly Latimer – Tom Petty, Jason Aldean
Kevin Hole – Kelly Latimer: Tom Petty is a god among men! Lol you take that back.
Kelly Latimer – Kevin Hole: To each their own, my friend! I like two of his songs that he performs, the rest I just can’t. I’ve tried, and just can’t.
Don Clapham – Hands down, Bon Jovi. I just don’t get it.
Steve Quick – The Stooges
Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk – Mariah Carey
Justin VanHaven – Lou Reed
Dave Adams – Kanye West, Cardi B and whomever else is the flavor of the day in the Hip Hop genre. Guns N’ Roses – musically, I don’t mind them, but Axl Rose’s voice is very annoying to me.
Don Bidell – Motley Crue, hands down
Matt Jarrells – Orville Peck
Tricia Boot – Matt Jarrells: HOW. DARE. YOU.
Matt Jarrells – Tricia: You’re only in it for the outfits
Kristine Carpenter – America
Hope Pearse Kolker – Britney, baby
Tricia Boot – Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran. I’ll say again here, Sink. ABBA and Britney deserve their popularity. But Maroon 5? How did THAT happen? Or Train?
Kevin Riley – Rush
Robert Biggie G Gill – Kevin Riley dude: Behold THE HOLY TRIUMVERATE! C’mon!
G. Kendall Kiel – I don’t recognize most of the photo subjects. That said, Dave Matthews Band has no edge.
Tim Hamm – “Machine Gun Kelly” and “Post Malone”
Robert Biggie G Gill – Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks
Kym Reinstadler – Beastie Boys. Their popularity remains a head-scratcher some three decades later.
Brian VanOchten – Nickelback, Creed, Jay-Z
Mike Ensing – Journey & Styx. Except for that final “Sopranos” scene for the former
Christian J. VanAntwerpen – KISS: Obnoxious 3-chord party anthems with no musical depth, messaging, or value. How they came to be as big as they are with, in my opinion, not even a hint of musical talent or artistic taste is beyond me.
Brian VanOchten – Christian J. VanAntwerpen: Worst live band ever, musically.
Mary Ellen Murphy – Kid Rock.
Greg Chandler – Mary Ellen Murphy: That makes two of us.
Daniel Parsons – AC/DC
Deb Roelofs – Britney Spears.
James R. Murphy Jr. – The entire thing is subjective. I’ve disliked bands in the past that I can hear now without having any negative reaction. I realized a lot of my attitudes toward certain musicians and their act, was actually shutting me down from appreciating music more broadly, and that some of the ways I looked at it were childish, and based in my teen-aged approach to music. So, I let that all go, and find that I can appreciate something on its own merits, even if it’s not exactly my cup of tea.
Rex Larsen – Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Kyle Brown – I think I could write a list of 100+ bands/artists that I don’t think should be successful but are, and a list of 100+ bands/artists that should be successful and aren’t. Everyone has different ears.
Vanessa Clark – MGK
Chelsea Whitaker – MGK and Post Malone
Brodie Orent – U2
Roger Kintner – Devo
Justin Stover – Mumford & Sons
Leslie Charlotte – Sebastian Bach
Chris Bardolph – Luke Bryan
Paul Wyatt – Grateful Dead
Kyle Rasche – Kid Rock
Greg Durkee – Rascal Flatts
Kevin Murphy = Dave Mathews
Frank Tobin – Kanye… love
Angel Christman – Pitbull
Daniel Jesse – Coldplay
John Crissman – The biggest a-hole of them all, Kanye West.
