THE READER RESPONSES:
John Sinkevics – I have a fair number of artists on my list of those I’ve always thought would make a great night at Meijer Gardens, but who’ve never played there: Steve Earle, David Gray, Lord Huron, Black Pumas, Billy Strings, Modest Mouse, Phoebe Bridgers, Greensky Bluegrass, Ryan Adams, Rhiannon Giddens, Borns. There are more, but that’s a start.
Jack Clark – Bon Iver, Ryan Bingham, Sturgill Simpson, St. Vincent, First Aid Kit, Anderson East, Vampire Weekend. They do an amazing job booking for this venue. Love all your suggestions John.
Stacy Slikkers Noonan – Walk Off the Earth
Justthe Adams – Annagail
Dave DeHaan – Cousin Earth
Janet Lee Zahn – Rising Appalachia
Stephen Aldrich – Anybody from this century really. Some realistic possibilities include pretty much everybody on Jack Clark’s well-informed list. I would add Anger Olsen, Fleet Foxes, Lana Del Rey, Khruangbin, Orville Peck, Julien Baker, War On Drugs, Soccer Mommy, My Morning Jacket, Big Thief, etc.
Chad Michael Wedeven – This will change soon with (Tuesday Evening Music Club shows), but I have never been there. The Gardens pricing formula seems to be: Take the maximum you would ever pay to see an artist. Double it. Then add $10. And make sure 2/3 of the shows are sold out before they can blink.
Michael Kroll – The Cars!
G. Kendall Kiel – I was a volunteer tram driver the year this opened. If I worked a show shuttling people from the old UAW lot I got to see the concert and get a comp pass to another show of my choice. I saw lots of great shows there but cannot afford to go now, except for the Tuesday night series.
Roger Kintner – Dave Alvin and the Guilty Men.
Jonathan Laughlin – Before he passed away a couple years ago, I always thought Dr. John would have played a hell of a set at Meijer Gardens.
Susan Park – I managed to get a ticket for Randy Newman…and watched Tears for Fears in a torrential downpour…3/4 of the audience ran for their cars… I hung in there because the tickets were so very expensive. I got squeezed out on Jackson Browne & Elvis Costello and Bonnie Raitt. I went in the second I heard and stilil could not buy one single ticket.
Wendy Taylor – Rufus Wainwright, The Mavericks.
Craig Carrick – Gary Clark Jr.
Craig Carrick – Tedeschi Trucks
Jeff Hill – Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Rex Orange County, Of Monsters and Men, Hozier, Accidentals.
Jack Clark – Bon Iver, Ryan Bingham, Sturgill Simpson, St. Vincent, First Aid Kit, Anderson East, Vampire Weekend. They do an amazing job booking for this venue. Love all your suggestions John.
Stacy Slikkers Noonan – Walk Off the Earth, Amigo the Devil
Justthe Adams – Annagail
Dave DeHaan – Cousin Earth
Janet Lee Zahn – Rising Appalachia
Stephen Aldrich – Anybody from this century really. Some realistic possiblities include pretty much everybody on Jack Clark’s well-informed list, I would add Anger Olsen, Fleet Foxes, Lana Del Rey, Khruangbin,Orville Peck, Julien Baker, War On Drugs, Soccer Mommy, My Morning Jacket, Big Thief, etc.
Reid Simpson – Best not book Ryan Adams and Phoebe Bridgers for the same night.
Dino Mor – Dalmatian Stone
John Serba – Megadeth. Well, Slayer and Motorhead aren’t options anymore.
Hope Pearse Kolker – Snoop!
Stephen Aldrich – Hope Pearse Kolker: You know what, if they ever booked a hip-hop act, that would be it.
Charles Honey – Aimee Mann
Vicky Lynn Johnson – Steve Earle, Todd Snider, Shinyribs, Paul Thorn. And especially, Bob Schneider.
Shelly Anderson – Shovels and Rope, Billy Strings, Watchhouse, Eilen Jewell.
Thomas Fouts – Yeah, Billy Strings for sure! 100 percent.
Barbara Harvey – The National
Maggie Cranson – Wish crowded house would come back!
Rachel Watson – I think Cake played the Gardens, but I missed it. So I would want them to come back.
Kyle Rasche – Gregory Alan Isakov
Daniel P Hudelson – Burton Cummings Band
Steve Secor – Inhaler now that their first record is about to come out. I feel like they won’t be obtainable for smaller venues for awhile.
Matthew Farage – I was thinking maybe get Steve Martin back. I never saw him, but thought it was cool he came there.
Kat Hovingh – of Montreal, Warpaint, Tobacco
Chad Stanton – Justin Heyward
Jamie Geysbeek – Fleet Foxes
Chandler Versluis – I would LOVE to see Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness play there. Also Jukebox the Ghost. And Chandler Reed & The Sticky Keys would DIE to open those shows.
