Sunday’s online birthday benefit will feature West Michigan hip hop stars Orlando, Kyd Kane, JRob, Ajax Stacks and more, raising money for targeted aid to the homeless.
For her birthday this year, Lady Ace Boogie wanted to do more than just showcase some West Michigan hip hop artists as part of her annual concert celebration.

So with COVID-19 continuing to spread across the state and the country, the hip hop promoter has moved the star-studded birthday show online Sunday with donations collected to aid “the marginalized homeless community” in and around downtown Grand Rapids.
“Our homeless community needs assistance now more than ever,” said Linda Tellis, aka Lady Ace Boogie.
“Recently, they were displaced from Heartside Park; some people I’m sure had to start all over.”
So, 80 percent of proceeds collected from 7 p.m. Sunday’s Facebook Live and Instagram Live event will support efforts to assist the homeless, including buying items they desperately need.
Performing online Sunday will be Lady Ace Boogie and Orlando from Bedrock, with appearances by Kyd Kane (Grand Rapids’ newly appointed Poet Laureate), JRob, Dayz, E-Will, Callab, Ajax Stacks and others.
Organizers are encouraging viewers to donate $10 (or whatever they can) to $LABPresents via Cash App or @Linda-Tellis via Venmo.
Tellis said those contributions will be used to target assistance to the homeless.
“We are personally going to go downtown to ask people what they need. The plan is to raise enough money to spread it out over the course of the winter and each week take items downtown that are needed that week,” she said of “going straight to the source” with aid.
“We understand that there are organizations that focus specifically on the homeless community. However, we feel strongly that taking an inventory on the actual needs of the people is the better route for us.”
Although Lady Ace Boogie has mostly retired from performing – releasing what she described as her final studio album, “That’s All For Now,” last summer – she continues to promote Grand Rapids hip hop artists through “Lady Ace Boogie Presents.”
