There was the musical virtuosity, the dedication to preserving traditional arts, the back-to-earth spirituality, the rootsy family-styled entertainment, the mentoring mentality, the back-stage camaraderie, the inspiring on-stage collaborations.
Wheatland 2015 oozed that and more last weekend amid sprawling pastures and woods outside Remus, with dozens of regional and national acts wowing audiences, rubbing elbows and generally having a Wheatland-styled good time.
In all, 10,000-plus festivalgoers got a chance to revel in the wonders of internationally revered acts such as Bill Kirchen, Blind Boy Paxton, California Feet Warmers, Balsam Range, Foghorn Stringband and Dervish sharing stages with Michigan favorites Joshua Davis, Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys, The Weatherheads and more.
In spite of a few detractors and some online grousing that’s part of any popular, sold-out festival, this Wheatland brought plenty of smiles to plenty of faces as the Local Spins photo gallery by Anna Sink vividly displays below.
