For northern Michigan singer-songwriter Joshua Davis, who finished third last month on the popular NBC singing competition “The Voice,” all that national attention certainly has sparked a crazy demand for his services with a bevy of high-profile, lucrative concerts already booked across the state this summer.
This week, he announced his first Grand Rapids show since his star-studded run on “The Voice”: Davis will play Fountain Street Church at 7:30 p.m. July 10. Tickets — $15 and $25 – go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster with details online here.
As Davis put it on Facebook, Fountain Street Church “has a long history of incredible music and strong involvement in progressive social causes” making it “an honor” to play in the church with a capacity of just under 1,600.
If recent history is any indication, it could sell out quickly.
The first ticketed show announced for Davis – an Aug. 13 “homecoming concert” at Interlochen Center for the Arts – sold more than 2,000 tickets in the first two hours of sales, with a similar rush for seats for a June 26 show at the Wharton Center in East Lansing. He also already has sold out his appearance at the Grass River Natural Area Benefit in Alden on June 27.
Davis plays Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch series today and performs with his band Steppin’ In It at the Nor-East’r Festival in Mio on Friday. Also on the busy summer schedule: a July 1 solo appearance at Legacy Art Park in Thompsonville, a July 8 Joshua Davis Quintet show at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo, an Aug. 1 trio show at Fair Lane Folk Festival in Dearborn and a set at the Hoxeyville Music Festival on Aug. 14.
Davis has said that he wants to “harness that energy” from his experience on “The Voice” by taking advantage of broader audience interest in his music and in Michigan’s music scene. With millions of viewers exposed to his performances and hundreds of thousands downloading those songs on iTunes, the Traverse City musician’s market value has soared.
