Talk about “pop”-ups at the ballpark.
The bands popping up at 105.3 HOT-FM’s Party in the Park on Wednesday clearly boasted a pop hue which drew thousands of teens and 20-somethings (and a fair number of parents) to Fifth Third Ballpark, with the crowd swelling in size by the time Hot Chelle Rae hit the stage late in the evening.
Grand Rapids’ own The Outer Vibe opened up the show to get the crowd hyped, followed by California’s My Crazy Girlfriend who performed their hit “Crazy Stupid Love,” eliciting a good audience reaction. Next up: Outasight, who involved fans with his call-and-repeat actions, adding catchy beats to get folks dancing. South African alt-rock band Kongos, meanwhile, brought a different vibe to the event with their heavier sound as well as an intriguing cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together.”
Finally, headliner Hot Chelle Rae of Nashville cranked out all of its upbeat pop hits and even threw in a cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.”
