The legendary Beatle and solo artist will bring his band and his “One on One” tour to Van Andel Arena on Aug. 15, part of a summer U.S. tour that’s hitting cities such as Milwaukee, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Cleveland.
Tickets — $29.50, $99, $168 and $253 — go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday (May 2) at the Van Andel Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at ticketmaster.com. There will be a ticket purchase limit of six tickets for each order.
McCartney’s website proclaims that the new tour will “unveil a dazzling re-designed set, dozens of classic from the most beloved catalog in popular music spanning Paul’s entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and, of course, as a Beatle.”
The show features “nearly three hours of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music” with “state of the art audio and video technology,” lasers, fireworks and a “staggering collection of the best songs ever written or performed.”
He’s not the first Beatle to swing through Grand Rapids: Ringo Starr, The Beatles’ ebullient drummer, has played Van Andel Arena previously, performing in Grand Rapids in 2003 and telling interviewer John Sinkevics of The Grand Rapids Press at the time: “Peace and love. Something happened in the middle of the ‘60s and I’m still with it.”
So is McCartney, 73, who continues to tour the globe with his ultra-talented band and who’s released several albums over the past five years, including 2011’s “Ocean’s Kingdom,” 2012’s “Kisses on the Bottom,” and 2013’s “New.”
With sales of more than 100 million singles and 100 million albums with The Beatles, the 21-time Grammy Award winner is considered one of the most successful composers ever and was knighted for his achievements in 1997.
American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, with a purchase limit of four tickets on all pre-sale orders.
