A new father and full-time music director at a Grand Rapids-area church, singer-songwriter Cameron Blake found himself working into the wee hours of the night writing the music – and eventually, recording the material – for his new solo studio album, “Alone on the World Stage.”
It paid off with a stunning collection of songs that tackle themes of social justice, recorded at Grand Rapids’ Stone House Recording and produced by Peter Fox (with mastering by Grammy-winning engineer Bill Wolf).
Blake takes that theme and passion even a step further when he officially releases the album at Fountain Street Church on Feb. 18 as part of a benefit show to raise money for Safe Haven’s new initiative to help provide victims of domestic abuste with safe, affordable housing options in Kent County. (Learn more about that at Blake’s website at cameronblakemusic.com.)
On Thursday, the guitarist, pianist and singer who’s previously released three indie-folk albums and a live recording stopped by Local Spins on WYCE to talk about his new project and perform a song on the air. The show also aired a track, “Detroit,” from the upcoming release.
Friday’s 24th edition of Local Spins on WYCE also featured the on-air debut of new songs by Complicated Animals (an indie-pop outfit featuring singer Monica da Silva), Bello Spark (which plays Local Spins Wednesdays at SpeakEZ Lounge at 8 p.m. Wednesday), Kari Lynch and S. Martin (a new collaboration between the country singer and singer-songwriter) and blues guitarist-singer Greg Nagy (the title track from his new “Stranded” CD).
The show also featured tracks from Greensky Bluegrass, Robin Connell, Backyard Songbook, Afro Zuma and The Concussions.
