So, with Friday upon us, there are three stellar shows you might have overlooked in planning your weekend entertainment schedule (in addition to the fact that pop/hip-hop artist Dev has canceled her ArtPrize-related concert at Rosa Parks Circle on Saturday night due to “a very serious personal reason,” according to sponsor Hot FM).
1) An Evening With Blondie, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Forest Hills Fine Arts Center ($48-$54) – Blondie just got off the road with Devo, so you might wonder what year we’re in. But this new wave phenom is still touring and recording, so I’m sure fans of this New York band will be out in force. Details/tickets here.
2) The Ragbirds, 9 p.m. Friday, The Pyramid Scheme ($14) – Sure, most folks know that Ann Arbor roots/folk/rock/pop/world beat band The Ragbirds oozes talent and puts on smashing live shows. But what you might not know: The band led by multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle is recording a live album at its Pyramid Scheme show, which will also feature two fabulously rootsy, country-hued Grand Rapids bands — Nicholas James & the Bandwagon and Roosevelt Diggs.
Hey, this is your chance for live album glory, applause-wise. Be there. Details/tickets here.
3) Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, Delilah DeWylde & The Lost Boys, 6 p.m. Sunday, Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill ($10) — Speaking of American roots music, California’s Big Sandy can light it up in rockabilly, Western swing, and traditional country fashion as impressively as anybody. And with Delilah in the house, too, things will be twang-ing into the wee hours. Details here.
