A capacity West Michigan crowd on Monday cheered the California psychedelic pop/rock ensemble and opener The Giving Tree Band. (Photo gallery)
With a new album on the way in July that the band describes as recalling elements of The Supremes, The Beatles and Jefferson Airplane, California’s Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros swooped into Kalamazoo’s State Theatre on Monday night for a sold-out concert that showed off their pop vocals and barefoot-styled inventiveness.

Local Spins was there, with photographer Anna Sink capturing images of the band, which took the stage after opener The Giving Tree Band, an Illinois outfit that’s sort of a cross between Mumford & Sons and Blitzen Trapper.
For Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros’ lead singer Alex Ebert and crew, Monday’s show comes in the midst of a busy summer tour that takes the band to Milwaukee’s Summerfest later this week and overseas to Europe in July, before heading back to the States for more dates following July 23 release of a self-titled album, the group’s third.
