West Michigan's music scene
Beginning with drum lessons as a kid, E. Andrei has always been interested in exploring different musical sounds. He began writing music at age 15 and later joined the live-looping duo Filmloom.
Now, the young artist performs his original music as a solo act, adding a hefty mixture of keyboards and synthesizers to his approach.
“I like to explore the dark, strange side of music just as well as the pop side,” says E. Andrei, who is part of the growing genre of electronica music that’s become a staple in West Michigan’s music scene.
“We’re all really supportive of each other,” E. Andrei says of Grand Rapids’ electronic music community.
Drastic personal changes in E. Andrei’s life have provided plenty of inspiration for the artist’s on-going project, which he views as a great way to express his new perspective of life. He’s also been influenced by artists such as James Blake and Chet Faker.
E. Andrei’s “dark and strange” electronic sound is undeniably unique, even in a music genre that includes a plethora of wide-ranging styles. After all, this is the sound of him embracing new ideals.
This week, E. Andrei — who played The DAAC in Grand Rapids on Friday night with Mishigami, Norty and Parts — joined Local Spins on WYCE to perform two of his songs, “Booth” and “Will/Fall” and to discuss his development as an artist.
