To celebrate the kickoff of the new “Local Spins on WYCE” radio show which launches at 11 a.m. today on WYCE-FM (88.1), Local Spins exclusively premieres the Grand Rapids electro-pop duo’s latest video, “Kiss and Tell,” representing the first single from the group’s next album, “Love or Temptation,” which will be released digitally and globally on Oct. 7.
I’ll debut the single on radio during the “Local Spins on WYCE” broadcast (which will also feature in-studio performances by Grand Rapids singer-songwriter Lucas Wilson and Hannaniah Whitley).
The Alexis video reconnects the duo of Matthew Forbush and Dan Hurst with director Ryan Lieske and cinematographer Craig Harmer, who produced Alexis’ wild 2012 video for “Fantastic Magic.”
The ultra-stylish black-and-white video for “Kiss and Tell,” says Lieske, is “a more lo-fi, conceptual work” filmed at the studios of Green Frog Photo and the Schaefer Cider Company in Conklin. He calls it “an impressionistic look at the struggle between primitive impulse and civilized decorum,” though it also stars Forbush and Hurst in quintessential Alexis mode.
“We are beyond excited to get the video out there,” Forbush told Local Spins. “Even though filming only took place over two days, it was still an incredible amount of work and preparation. We knew going in that we wanted to have a high-endook and feel, but also a touch of raw energy and grit.”
The video team – which included local actors/performers Jesy Brenner, Leah Vukovich, Faye Sills, Nick Schrotenboer and Daintry Frie, with technical assistance of photographers Seth Thompson of Epiglotic Photographic and Jeff Hage of Green Frog Photo – had “a great time” shooting the project, says Forbush.
“The track has a ’90s dance feel to it, so we tried to kind of go with the look of more of a ’90s grunge video just to shake that up,” he adds. “I think everybody did a great job making it sexy and fun and just a little over the top.”
Over the top, indeed. And here it is. Get more info about Alexis and the upcoming album at musicofalexis.com.
